Sakib Imtiaz is an independent researcher and consultant specializing in disaster risk management, climate resilience, and humanitarian action. He is the Founder of the World Risk Institute, a global research institute and think tank.
Sakib has worked with a range of national and international organizations, including the United Nations, leading and contributing to projects on disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, anticipatory action, and impact-based forecasting, particularly in fragility, conflict, and violence (FCV) contexts such as the Rohingya refugee crisis. His experience spans both field operations and strategic advisory roles.
His research examines the dynamic relationship between human societies and the environment, with a focus on social-ecological systems and multi-hazard risk assessment. He regularly presents at international conferences, publishes in peer-reviewed journals, and writes feature articles and opinion pieces for leading outlets including The Daily Star, The Diplomat, The Financial Express, and ReliefWeb.
Sakib holds a Master of Science (MS) in Disaster Management from the Department of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from North South University.
